On May 24, 2016, the first summit on Renewable Energy Sources (hereinafter RES) was held in Astana, under the auspices of the Renewable Energy Association of Kazakhstan.
The purpose of the summit is to discuss the new law on supporting renewable energy in Kazakhstan and its application, international renewable energy practices, attracting investment, as well as the experience and practice of implementing renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan.
The summit participants, representatives of the largest foreign and Kazakh companies, welcomed the adopted amendments to the legislative acts on the transition of Kazakhstan to a "green economy", expressing their common interest in the further growth of the renewable energy market, attracting investment in this industry, as well as the Republic's commitment to global economic trends in the field of alternative energy.
One of the main results of the summit was the general confidence of the summit participants that the renewable energy market can become the next serious engine of economic growth in Kazakhstan.
The strategic goal is to achieve the following set targets: by 2020, 3% of all electricity produced in the country should be accounted for by RES, by 2030 – 10%, and by 2050 - 50%.
The Association of Renewable Energy of Kazakhstan, which unites all the players of the renewable energy market-investors, developers, international and Kazakh financial institutions, consulting and legal companies-provides all the necessary assistance to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Energy in all aspects of the development of the renewable energy market.
The co-organizers were: the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the First President's Foundation, the European Union, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the KazEnergy Association, the Council of Foreign Investors under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the American Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan, EUROBAC, and others.
